Miss Melanie is a Producer and On Air personality for the Uncharted Program with Craig Williams. She's been working with Craig for years, going back to the early 90's in the old KNAC studios. Answering the questions for this profile was difficult for Melanie because she has so many favorites and the music means so much to her, that she didn't want to leave anything out. She says that when it comes to music what she listed here is only the tip of the iceberg and, given the opportunity, she'd have a favorite band section the size of her arm! Melanie first entered the KNAC.COM chatroom on the second Sunday of Febuary in 1998. Rottn1 and Morpheus were the first roomies she met. She feels that the KNAC.COM online community is a very loving, loyal bunch and she's quite fond of the Sunday night crowd which includes roomies Morpheus, Overlord, Sterling, Starrr, WashCap22, Phantombluefan, satan, Danzigirl and many more. Melanie says, "You know who you are and you're all lovely!" She does say that her personal favorite is Morph. "He's been a great friend to me from the very beginning. He's smart, sweet, and not in the least bit skanky! Whatta guy!" The funniest thing that ever happened to her in the chatroom was when she recieved about seven "dick pics" from a roomie whose name she wouldn't mention! However, she says his initials are known to everyone! When asked about her co-workers, Miss Melanie's reply was, "There are plenty of freaks in this world and I'd have to say that most of the ones that live in the SoCal area are employed by KNAC.COM!" She adores Craig Williams for playing so much that no one else does. She really digs Super Rock Sunday with Crazy Craig and Moshin' John. She says they're crazed, funny and have a great show full of stuff you don't usually hear during the week. Finally, she gives kudos to Long Paul, "He's a classic!" Music is a driving force in Melanie's life. She agonized over what bands to list as her faves. She finally came up with a list with the caveat that they don't represent the full scope of her obsession with rock'n roll music. The bands she listed are: X, Black Sabbath, The Leaving Trains, Iggy and the Stooges, Eleven, System of a Down, Old G n R, Texas Terri and the Stiff Ones, Motorhead, L7, Patti Smith, Primus, Janes Addiction, The Cramps, The Muffs, The Pandoras, 3GT, Edna Swap, and DEVO! Her most memorable concert was the KNAC 5th Anniversary Party featuring Ozzy, L.A. Guns and Alice in Chains at the Long Beach Arena in 1991. Her date for the concert was her mom! "She rocks!" Melanie also cites The Black Crowes at the Greek Theater during their Southern Harmony tour as a memorable concert. She tells us that the air was filled with "...the most pleasant smelling smoke and euphoria was mine to be had." LOL Recently, she saw Iggy Pop play the El Rey and says he was an amazing example of pure rock'n roll power. And last but not least, she mentions "the awesome" Wayne Kramer/Mike Watt performance at Al's Bar during the Democratic Convention. "They played 'Kick out the jams, motherfucker' and I think everyone understood!" Her recent music purchases reflect her diverse tastes. She purchased Texas Terri and the Stiff Ones' "Eat Shit +1", which features "... an awesome cover track of 'Women Should Be Wilder'", "Night Life" by a great band called Cobra Verde, "Hot to Go" by the 440's, and a 7-inch by a band called the Vice Principles (previously the Humpers)! One of the perks of Miss Melanie's job is that she gets to hang with the guests! She tells us that one of the greatest guests she's ever had the pleasure of meeting was Brother Wayne Kramer of the MC5. "He was amazing, legendary, intelligent, interesting and more importantly, one of the forefathers of hard rock music. Very cool." Melanie also enjoyed Ross Robinson who is the man behind the Korn/Limp Bizkit sound. Even though she isn't really into that type of music she found Ross to be so passionate and honest about music that it was totally refreshing and did her heart good. She also liked the band Eleven and Poison's Rikki Rockett. "He's a really nice fellow and an activist! I love activists!" The list of guests Melanie didn't enjoy unfortunately holds only one name, Slayer. She thought they acted "...pompous and hoity toity, which was really disapointing. It sucks when you learn your heros are assholes. Boohoo!" Miss Melanie's dream job would be to be paid for being unrelentlessly Melanie! LOL The worst job she's ever had was working for Greg Ginn of Black Flag at his coffeehouse, The Idea Room. She says that Greg was great, but "...the manager sucked ass and ended up firing me over a disagreement we had over punk rock music. (I was right, he was wrong!) This is the only job I've ever been fired from." The person Melanie admires most is her mother. She calls her an amazing rock'n roll, lady! The person who's influenced her most is country music legend Dolly Parton. "She's loud, trashy and always in a sequined gown! Plus she has her own amusement park, DollyWood. How cool is that?" |
